Debbie Brewer-Benson, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Debbie Brewer-Benson is a highly accomplished physician and psychologist with over three decades of experience spanning clinical medicine, behavioral health, and academic leadership. As the Chief Wellness Officer of The Benson Institute, Dr. Brewer-Benson integrates her extensive background in physical and mental health to lead the organization’s wellness initiatives and program evaluations.

Expert Clinical Foundation

Dr. Brewer-Benson is uniquely dually qualified, holding both a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Meharry Medical College and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Her clinical training includes an internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation, making her an expert in health across the entire lifespan—from childhood through adulthood.

Leadership & Research Excellence

Throughout her career, Dr. Brewer-Benson has held significant leadership and academic roles, including:

  • Medical Director: Provided clinical oversight and staff management at the Atlanta Medical Evaluation Center.
  • Director of Research & Evaluation: Led data-driven assessment efforts for the Community Mental Health Center at Meharry Medical College.
  • Academic Faculty: Served as a Senior Clinical Instructor at Case Western Reserve University and a Clinical Instructor at Meharry Medical College, where she shaped the curriculum for future medical professionals.
